A Fellowship of Four

Let me tell you a story. There are many like it, but this particular story is among the first told from which all others come.

Before, there were four siblings who called the sun their father and the earth their mother. These timeless brothers and sisters were the oldest of living, breathing beings and as you might expect their age endeared them with knowledge and wisdom but although they were eldest they were not only.

After them, born of sky and moon, of hope and awe, of thought and logic sprang life of a diversity that would stagger the modern notion. As this life gained in power, the original four sought to claim for themselves what they had been born to and to that end devised a trick for which even they would fall.

In the end, the siblings took from the great well of life without contest and in doing so grew immense in their understanding of the world.

One day, driven by the thrill of victory, the eldest brother sought to claim for himself that which had been divided among his siblings and blind to his greed, the others fell to his treachery.

And that's where the story ends. There is no happy ending. There is no lesson to be taught and if you should learn something, I hope you'll find courage to act when the time comes.
